Food bucket list
I was up in Ottawa recently, and took in some food items just not available here. Crumpets. Maple-smoked bacon. Cheese Ritz. REAL smoked meat and pastrami (no smoked meat here, and what passes for pastrami is second rate). Aged cheddar, 3 yrs and 10 years, from a cheese factory outlet. CURDS. Habitant pea soup. Fresh, roadside peaches'n'cream corn on the cob. Non-GMO field strawberries. Quality sushi.

Bring any of those things back? I am having a serious crumpet craving right now.

Gee, you're a great help, Mike. Now my mouth is watering for the stuff you listed, but that's one heckuva far way to go for it!!!

Yes, pricey and limited selection, made in front of you, but it is very good.
However, back "home" I take in an all you can eat for $30. You order from a vast menu of photos on a tablet, that you keep at the table, which fires off a message to the kitchen. The variety is stunning. Even had mackerel. And it is consistently excellent. I am 10 minutes away, with no reso required.
I mean, just check out the menus. I regularly order a dozen or so items, and often multiples, which would break the bank if it wasn't the all you can eat.

I brought back a 1.2 litre jug of President's Choice chunky salsa, and CheezIt Crunch sharp white cheddar crackers. Got me some Twizzlers, and some noname Smarties. A ton of Tetley breakfast tea. I am being told I could easily have returned with bacon, Polish sausage, and other goodies in my checked baggage. Next time.
In the land of a million salsas, Mexico, you have to pay exhorbitant prices for Pace (which is just average) if you want non-slurpy dipping salsa for your chips.

Damn! I dream about the Presidents Choice product line. I can find no Szechuan Peanut sauce that is even remotely as good here. I also miss Baba Ganoush and tabouleh.

Wandering through Loblaw is like going to foodie heaven. So many vareties of sauces, ice creams, soft drinks, fresh foods, pre-packaged meals... That PC summer Insider's Report flyer is alwys a drool-fest.

I make a point of loading up at Loblaws every trip to Toronto. Almost as much fun as Trader Joe's.
But did you breakfast at Tim Horton's?

Re: Food bucket list
I stuffed myself with fresh raspberries that all my friend's gardens were abundant with. Free and organic.
Huckleberries, thimbleberries, blackberries, all growing wild on my daughter's property.
Fresh wild salmon.
Ate out at a great East Indian restaurant(no East Indian places here in Sayulita)
Pastrami.
Kaiser buns.
Buckwheat.
Breyer's ice cream.
Nanaimo bars.

LOL, No, don't drink coffee, never liked Tim's atrocious stuff anyway. My breakfasts were at a smoked-meat chain with a huge side of... smoked meat.

I found many of Tim Horton's offerings much too salty.

Re: Food bucket list
I find a lot of restaurant food, and certainly all fast food, too salty. Salt and pepper is available to diners. Why not let them decide for themselves how salty they want it? Not to mention, some people need to stick to a low sodium diet for their health.
